Is this a classic piece?

So, it has been a lifelong challenge for my mother and I to shop together... yesterday, her and my aunt came to town for the Fabulous Food Show and some shopping at Westfield Southpark. My aunt was buying some new clothes, and we all decided that this particular piece looked great on her - so she bought it. BUT, while we were in the fitting room, my mother and I got into an argument... one of us thinks this is a "classic" piece for the wardrobe. The other disagrees. I won't tell you which of us thinks what... as to not bias your opinion. But we really need to settle it once and for all. Is this shirt/jacket a "classic" piece? I've put two pix here... you can see the colors and pattern a bit better in the bottom one...

I vote "not classic." I'm sure this piece would be nice on someone, but all I can picture is what I'd look like in it: classic circus tent, maybe. Too many colors, too boxy. Not good.
Love your show Jen, and your mom's tips brighten my drive home!

I vote for NOT a classic piece. When I think of classic, I think of the black blazer that goes with anything!

I vote -"not classic" - classic has the word "class" in it for a reason. Although ..the right person, place and time it could look ok!

"NOT CLASSIC" is my vote....not tailored enough and too many colors...classic would go with more stuff than this cindy lauper reject...Jenn, save your mom - I love her and would NOT want her to be seen in this!

I would say retro ~ not classic! Reminds me of a 50's or 60's maternity shirt that I've only seen in pics because I'm WAY to young to remember 1950's or 60's!

Not a classic in my opinion. At first I thought, Yuk! But on the right person, it looks like a cozy top for the winter. (Better than wearing a sweatshirt.) I agree that it isn't a classic and it reminds me of a shirt I had when I was a pre-teen with all the colors. No wait, it reminds me of the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat! (I'm sure it looks better on!) Do I see a trip back to the mall in your Aunt's future?

Love ya sister!

Jen....Mom is ALWAYS right!! This is totally a "classic" wardrobe piece! First I think your pics are not flattering. Second, you could wear this with jeans, a casual skirt - or a black skirt or slacks. You could dress it up with a necklace and dark colored skirt (any...)! So as a Mom to Mom - you go Mom! You rock!

This is so not "classic". By definition a classic item is that which is simple, stylish, timeless, and elegant.

Bless her heart for believing the sales lady would be honest with her when there was probably a commission involved.

It might be considered a classic at Coldwater Creek but when I think of a classic piece of clothing, I think of a black or blue blazer or anything black
